Last Friday night, we all decided to go and have a bread fest courtesy of Groupon Malaysia where we bought our voucher from. There was a bread basket voucher and I was very interested to try after experiencing the bread platter dish in Melbourne, which was simply mind blowing!
Doesn't this just seems do delicious?
Happy times in 2010
It was such a wonderful and delicious dish, and I'd yet to try such in Malaysia. Imagine my delight when such coupon popped up in my email promising delicious fresh home made bread, with gouda cheese and butter?
So being adventerous people, off we went to sample their bread basket.
So I'm proud to present to you:
~The Carpenter's Daughter~
Artisan Bakery & Cafe
How could you resist such an adorable and unique name for their restaurant? I am really not too sure how did the owner came up with such a name. Probably it is because she is a daughter of a carpenter, and she is proud of it? Literal take on the shop's name. But I like it. It reminds me of the quaint little shops in Melbourne with home cooked food.

We placed our orders and started taking pictures around the place.

Pretty Rome-like decorations
Our drinks came first, obviously. I ordered Passion fruit juice, while Bug had the Vanilla latte.
Passion fruit juice (RM6.90)
Hot vanilla late (RM8.90)
The drinks were alright, not particularly memorable. My passion fruit juice was a little too diluted for my liking, though I particularly enjoyed the generous heaping of the flesh at the bottom of my drink. Did not taste the coffee, so I could not comment on how good it is there.
Our bread platter came first. Our deal were supposed to consist of:
- Gourmet bread platter with focaccia, seven grain, sourdough, ciabatta, mini baguette and whole wheat country bread
- Butter, jam, olive oil and gouda cheese
- Two soups of mushroom/pumpkin/Italian dressing
- Garden salad
Which costs us RM16 only for 2 people. Say yay to Groupon! If not, it would cost..
Mushroom soup (RM11.90)
What are you doing??
This soup is not from the can. Freshly blended with tons of mushroom, the only gripe I have is that it was too little for my liking. It was not as flavourful as I would like it as well too, but it would do. Their soup came with two pieces of garlic bread, one for each of us. The garlic bread was simple, hearty and yummy. Nuff said.
Garden Mixed Salad (RM11.90)
I did not touch this for one particular reason: I do not like my veggies with dressings on them. Call me weird or something, but I enjoy my veggies plain and uncooked. Also, it did not really look very appetizing to me, so I stayed away from it. Lol.
Bread Platter (RM19.90)
Closer look
The bread platter is pretty impressive, with 6 different kinds of bread and two of each. Of all the breads, I enjoyed sourdough the best, as it goes very well with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I enjoyed the other breads too, but it could get a little dry without any fillings. But I'm sure that when served in sandwich style, it would taste simply heavenly. I can't wait to give their sandwiches a try!
Vongole spaghetti (RM17.90)
Happy girl with her spaghetti
Their vongole spaghetti is nicely cooked al dente, and is beautiful blend of garlic, olive oil, chilli flakes, some wine and herbs, topped with a generous amount of clams. It tastes as yummy as it looks. I quite enjoy this dish, as it was not too overpowering, and provides a delightful tango on your tastebuds.
Giadiniera Pizza (RM20.90)
Giadiniera pizza is a vegetarian pizza, filled with vegetables so ease the guilt when consuming the pizza. It is topped with capsicums, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, and a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. This pizza is definitely worth your every cent. Not only it is much cheaper compared to the generic fast food pizza chain stores, it also tastes much better and best of all, it is made with love (I hope?).
Their restaurant is a cafe and bakery conjoined together, very much like Levain concept, but a more affordable version of it. They have a wide selection of bread, and most of it are sold out by night time.
Bread counter
Steady stream of customers even at 9 something at night
I was told that they are the sole supplier of organic breads to several organic shops in Selangor due to the following reasons:
They are famous for their organic bread
Here's how to contact them, through facebook, their official blog and website.
Total damage: RM54.60 + RM16 (From Groupon)
No tax. yay!
Verdict: If you are looking for good home cooked Western food, with a very quaint environment for a good girls night out, or simply to hang out here is the restaurant for you. Their food is delicious, and is really affordable. Their bread platter may not be as comparable to the one in Aussie, but it is the best so far I'd seen in Malaysia. Try their pizza and their pasta, you will not be disappointed. The owner is a really friendly lady who always have a smile on hand. Recommended to come! Just that the parking around Taipan area is really crazy, so be really patient in that area!
