Waxing at Honeypot, One Utama

**Updated: Read Bug's post of his version of Boyzilian waxing here!

Yesterday (5.2.12), we made the most life changing decision of all. We had decided to go for....

BRAZILIAN WAXING!!

Ok, before you guys go SAY WHATTTT???, let me tell you the reasons why I did it:

1. Hygiene purposes - Its definitely much more cleaner during the menstrual times. Much easier to clean up, less chances of cockroaches and ants to build their nest within the bush (LOL, joking!). But seriously, it is definitely much more hygienic.

2. Curiosity - Curiosity kills the cat, I always say. Honestly, wouldn't it be an experience to actually say that "I'd survived brazilian waxing, and I'd lived to tell the tale! Woohoo!"? Bet you all are curious how it feels like to have a bare me-ow too!

3. Swimsuit - Ok, this is my primary reason that I went for a brazilian, I wanted to wear a bikini on an upcoming holiday by the beach. I sure don't want hair sticking out from the sides of my bikini.

4. Sexay lady - Definitely feels more sensual after doing the waxing. Rawr!

Can't think of anymore reasons, so lets cut to the chase! So on the dooms *ahem* i mean appointment day, Bug and I made our way to One Utama. It was so freaking jammed up, and there were no parking left. We left home at 3 pm, and managed to only secure a parking at 3.45pm. It was a good thing that our appointment was at 4.30pm. We made our way to Honeypot, at Level 2 in One Utama.

Ok, now why Honeypot, and not Strip Waxing, or Apronbay, or Glitters Nail and Waxing Saloon? So far till date, there were all good reviews by the blogger community regarding the services by Honeypot. Many claimed that they were
  • professional,
  • easy to talk to (less chances of getting embarrassed),
  • excellent customer service,
  • No double dipping, means great care for personal hygiene
  • great finished job (means they are detailed down to the very last hair), and
  • best of all, they don't hard sell their products and services.
Well sounds good enough to me! I'm sold. So Honeypot One Utama, here I come!

I was ushered to the few chairs at the front of the lobby. We were made to fill up some forms, something about declaring that you are fit to be waxed, not pregnant, not allergic to certain chemicals, yadaa yadaa. Simple forms. Here are some pictures which were taken from the Honeypot facebook page as they don't allow pictures at the saloon.

The treatment room

Front of the store

While we were filling up the forms on the counter, another couple walked pass by the shop and started staring and giggling. Probably giggling at the fact that Bug actually had the courage to do a Boyzillian. Hehe! May be a turn off for the shy ones as everybody can see who is in the shop. No worries though, the rooms are in a corridor, with a sliding door to protect the privacy. Thank goodness!

So I was ushered to a room on the right, while Bug was taken to the room on the left. Sorry couples! No sharing rooms allowed! My waxing therapist, Pui Ling (I think, I'm so bad with names, I'm so sorry!) entered the room and told me to strip my jeans and undies and lie down on the bed with the towel covering the upper half of my body. I was like everybody else, I was thinking "Oh gosh! I'm gonna bare everything to a complete stranger". Let me tell you this. There is NOTHING embarrassing about showing your bits to the therapist as she was very professional. What's more, she has the same stuff as what I have too. So put away the shame and let it rip, I say!

First, she proceeded to chat me up, and started trimming the hair before applying the wax. The wax was a very pretty bubble gum pink! It was supposed to smell like cherries, but I didn't manage to get a single whiff of cherries scent in the air. Probably its very faint?

Pretty cherry wax

I was being pretty chatty in the room! Probably to ease my nerves. When she applied the wax on the private part, she asked if the temperatures was alright. It was warm, but definitely not burning hot! So I was talking and talking and talking and talking, and suddenly..

Riiiiiiipppppppppppp!!!!!!

HOLY CRAP! It was..... Not too bad I feel! Honestly, when she started waxing the bikini line, some parts were not painful at all. After she pulled out the wax, she immediately pressed on the spot and applied some cooling wet tissue on it. So it is really not that painful. I'll give it a 3/10 on the pain level. I'm not gonna lie, it hurts at certain points, but not until the fact that you will be screaming on the bed. Painful enough for you to wince, but that is it.

After she finishes the bikini line, she moves on to the more sensitive parts, the outer and the inner labia of the vagina. I'm not gonna lie, this is the part where it starts to hurt. The wax would start to feel a little warmer than usual. No brainer really, as there are more sensitive nerves at this region. Bad news though, it starts to hurt quite badly. No, I definitely didn't scream there. But I did let out an "OUCH..." once in awhile. It helps a little if I breathe normally and relax when she was waxing. Don't hold your breathe! It would hurt much more, I can guarantee you that. Don't worry, it isn't very bad. About 7/10 on the ouch-o-meter. I had experienced worse. Teeth pulling for example.

My therapist took about half an hour to wax my entire region. Bug was quicker, he was out within 20 minutes. Tak kan I have more hair right??? @.@

I am pretty pleased with my results, though it feels so weird being so smooth down there! This is something that I could definitely get use to though! Feel so yummy and free not having anything down there! Some post-waxing tips within the first 24 hours:

1. No hot shower. Warm/cold shower is ok though.
2. No hot saunas
3. No hot baths
4. No sun bathing/sun tanning
5. No sexual activities
6. No sweating at the region down there, means no strenuous exercise

Shouldn't be too hard for me. I generally don't like being in a hot environment. Another tip they gave was to exfoliate once or twice a week, starting three days after the waxing. This is to prevent ingrown hair at the region.

NO PICTURES OF THE AFTER EFFECT BTW!! *just a reminder. hehe!*

So the big question is: Would I do it again? Definitely! It is pretty addictive actually. Once you go bare, you wouldn't go back. Would definitely be scheduling a second visit soon for touch up and stuff. Yay!

Some tips that I'd managed to obtain:

Pre-waxing tips:
  • Go one week before/after your period as it hurts less. I went two days after my period and it hurts a bit.
  • Take painkiller if you want to numb the pain
  • Exfoliate the area prior to waxing as the wax could adhere better to the hairs
  • Don't forget to voice your concerns to the therapist. Ask questions if you are unsure!
During waxing tips:
  • Chat with the therapist, as it would ease the nerves, and calms you down. Only works for the chatty kinds though.
  • Breathe in and out during the waxing session. Do not hold your breathe as it would hurt even more.
Post-waxing tips:
  • Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! This is to prevent ingrown hair. I can't stress enough on the importance of this step
  • Put some aloe vera oil if it smarts badly. Cold water works the same way too
  • I'd read in some blogs that baby oil could help to retain the moisture of the waxed area. I'd yet to try though.
So what are you all waiting for? Go out there and give it a try, as it certainly is an experience which you must not miss! It certainly ain't too pricey, ranging from Rm 30 to Rm 115. Check out their website for the brazilian menu and the pricings. They also do other body parts, such as the hands, legs, eyebrows at an additional charge. =)

  1. Well, it’s definitely a positive that you didn’t feel too much pain that go round! My first time in a saloon was a month ago. I was scared because my friends told me it’s a lot of pain. My therapists told me to stay relaxed because tensing up would make the procedure even more painful. She also reassured me that she’d be using some numbing cream to make the treatment more bearable. As far as I can remember, it’s called lidocaine.
