Langkawi Getaway: Day 2 - Orkid Ria Restaurant

It's been a loooonnngggg time since I blogged bout our Langkawi getaway. We'd been busy with assignments, tests, reports, experiments until we had no time to even touch on this subject! Lets pick up from where we started. Click here if you want to read our journey way back in February.

After our Island Hopping adventure, we head on to enjoy the sunset at Pantai Tengah. Allow me to show you the beauty of having our own private beach attached to our hotel, Sunset Resort.

Our hotel is directly facing the sunset. How awesome is that?

Found a sea creature. Its my first time seeing a live star fish! Just look at the tentacles!

More beautiful shots of the sunsets.

After such a long day out (We were awake since sunrise!), we head on to Orkid Ria for some good ol seafood to placid the hungry tummies.

Orkid Ria is situated along Pantai Cenang area, a 5 minutes drive from our hotel towards the airport. Hence, it is not hard to locate the restaurant. The large Orkid Ria heading also helps as well.

Front of Orkid Ria restaurant

The place was pretty packed with tourists, but we were lucky to secure a table almost instantly. Probably it is due to the fact that it was almost 9pm already.

Interior of the restaurant

We were so hungry by then, so we quickly placed our order for the food. I had pretty high expectations of this place due to the great reviews on Tripadvisor, and also the great interior feel of the restaurant. The fact that it was packed with tourists also boosted my expectations.

Great atmosphere + Many people = Orgasmic food

Right???

I beg to differ. Firstly, when we were ordering our food, the waitress on hand was very impatient. Everytime we could not decide what to get, she gave a very resounding sigh, and walked away while we were still deciding. That being said, the place really was packed, and probably she was just stressed with her work. No biggie, I am used to such service from restaurants in KL, and why would here be any different?

Service aside, now the food. The first to arrive at our table was the Teo Chew style snapper.

Teo Chew style Snapper (RM42)

Come on, honestly? RM7 - 100g is already a rip off. The waitress had recommended us a 600 g worth of fish. From what I had in KL, that does not look like 700 g at all. In fact, I could also get the same fish in Kuala Selangor (Fishing village) at half of the quoted price. I was aghast at the size and price of the fish. How many tourists had they been ripping off? The fish is not as fresh as expected, and the sauce was bland and unmemorable.

I could not remember the prices for the following items and a plate of vegetables (Not pictured):

Sizzling style beancurd

Oyster Omelette (O chien)

The dishes are bland, and totally unmemorable at all. Enough said. Sizzling style beancurd and vegetables was so-so. Nothing special. The oyster omelette was a let down. We were so used to the KL style of oyster omelette, where the egg is fluffy, but the oysters were bouncy and sweet. This oyster omelette is not fluffy, pan fried, and the oysters are really small. In fact, I'm even questioning if there are actually cockles instead of oysters. *Shrugs*

Our measly dishes

Verdict: The entire meal was quite a disappointment. The entire meal was definitely not enough for 5 people! We left the premises feeling unsatisfied and we were hungry by 11pm again! Our tiny meal as above costs us almost RM100. What a total rip-off! I could not remember the exact price, but it was definitely above RM90.

Their rice alone already costs RM1.50 per pax, where else in KL, it is only RM1.20 or lower.

Being a regular patron of such chinese restaurants, I would definitely advise to try other chinese food in Kuah Town. Only eat here when you have no other option, but be prepared to be ripped off. But in my honest opinion..

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS!!!
