MUPA's Hunger Games @ Archery Competition

~Go District 12!~

* MUPA = Monash University Postgraduate Association

And yes indeed. Last Saturday, I was drawn from a pool of people  given the privilege to enter MUPA's indoor archery tournament at Stars Archery Sunway Pyramid.

Yeah, I get to be Katniss Everdeen!!!

Though I'm not really the starving girl who needs to hunt for food, but I get to hunt down unmoving targets for the sake of winning the competition.

Anyways, we met at the archery centre at 3.45 pm, as MUPA had booked the whole centre from 4pm to 6pm just solely for us.

I feel so welcomed!

It was a very well thought out event, ranging from safety briefing, to free trial round, to the actual game itself.

Briefing by the instructors

Oh yes, I'd forgotten to tell who is in my group. There are three people in a team, and 13 teams all together. In my group, there was Bug and me, and Mori. Yeah, I'd managed to drag her into the archery team, despite her protests, ummms and ahhhs. (Am I a good persuader or what?)

And Mori dragged Wennie into our games as our pillar of support as well. She wasn't too happy when I took her picture. Seems like this is her annoyed face:

Looks more like pouting to me, no?

After that, we were given the chance to practice for 30 minutes, unlimited arrows. How awesome is that? There is no need of worrying whether the arrows would be depleted because the instructors would come and fill it up every single time it finishes.

There are plenty of instructors on hand to help those who are inexperienced or have no knowledge on how to shoot. Me included. It is pretty easy, but boy you need alot of arm strength just to carry that bow on your left hand. My instructor was pretty patient, and soon I was shooting my way through the arena.

The battle field

Our practice target

After our practice session, it was time for our tournament. Each game would have three sessions, one for each contestant in our team. And there would be two games all together. So each of us would need to compete twice. In each session, we were given 12 arrows to shoot. How cool!

We are District 12, Group 12 so technically, we should have the inborn skills to win this thing!

Mori was the first to shoot:

Pulling back the arrow

And aiming

Bulls eye!

Followed by Bug, and lastly me (No pictures of me shooting!):

Check out those muscles!

I managed to persuade Wennie to give archery a try. Like I said, aint I a good persuader? But I had to endure comments and complaints waaaaaayyyyy before she say yes.

Ears gonna drop off already. Hehe!

Another angle

This guy is one of the better instructors around Star Archery. He was really patient, and he gave valuable tips which improved my game for the second round.

Tips on how to shoot accurately:

1. Aim when the arrow is directly under your eye @ Touch the feather ends of the arrow at the cheekbone beneath your aiming eye.

2. Angle the arrow arm higher for more power

3. Immediately shoot after aiming so that there would be no chance of trembling hands. The longer you hold the bow, the more tiring it would be, and hence the more chances of inaccuracy due to shakey hands.

Honestly, I felt that my game had improved with these tips in mind. Awesome! After the game, we took some pictures while waiting for the results to be released.

District 12! yeah!

Our hand gear

Archery! Anybody interested in the membership?

The Star Archery people are really efficient, the results are posted almost immediately after each session is done. We just had to wait for 15 minutes for the results to be announced.

*Drrrrrrrum Rrrrrrrrroll*

And the winners are:

First place - Group 3
Second place - Group 11
Third place - Group 5

Congratz to the winners (Especially the first prize winners because they won Tony Roma's food vouchers! Yummeh!)

A group picture with the MUPA members before ending the ceremony. I'm really proud to say that: FINALLY I'm one of them.

Can you spot me?

Oh, you must be wondering how did we do?

Introducing the Overall Team Ranking and Individual team Ranking respectively:
Group 12 - 5th place!

How awesome is that! With everyone who are inexperienced, we still managed to land the Top-5 teams spot. Give a round of applause to District 12!

Guess who came up as one of the Top-10 archers? :)

Had an awesome Saturday with my bunch of crazy people, but I still love them anyways!

~May the odds be ever in your favour~

Love, Bee
