Last Friday, the three of us went down to Jaya One for a hearty dinner after a long and stressful week. We had heard good reviews on this restaurant, and they serve The Last Polka ice cream, and best of all, it's named after me: THE BEE!
What more reasons could there be???
So off we went to try this restaurant. It is located at Jaya One shopping complex. It is a little tricky searching for this restaurant as the complex had undergo some renovations. All I could say is follow the signs that shows "more restaurants", cross through the carpark, go up the escalator, and read the floor maps. I sure hope you are good with directions. If not, make sure you drag someone who could.
When you get to an open air boulevard surrounded by restaurants and pubs, you are in the right area. The Bee is opposite Wendy's Restaurant. So look out for that landmark.
Here's the frontal part of the restaurant:
Interior of the restaurant. Feels quite homey.
Their simple menu
We placed our orders and noticed that their table was decorated with some flowers and some flags. Beautify DIY decos!

Mandy & I
So our drinks came first. Bug had an Ice Mocha (RM11.50), while I had a Bee's Lemonade (RM6.50).
Bee's Lemonade (RM6.50)
The iced mocha was very coffeeish according to Bug. He said it was pretty good. Listen to him, he was the ex-barista of Starbucks, and I'm sure he knows what he is talking about. My lemonade was very sour. At first sip, it was more sour than refreshing. My taste buds gradually got used to the taste.
The food:
Fettuccine Carbonara (RM18.50)
Their pasta came with a generous topping of beef bacon, and I really meant generous. This pasta has less sauce as compared to the one in Vary Pasta, but each strand of fettuccine is evenly coated with the carbonara. It was nicely seasoned with the spices, so it is not so jelak. Comparing these two places, I would still prefer the Vary Pasta carbonara, as the serving is bigger and the sauce is tastier
The vegetarian patty
I did not try the burger, as Mandy had a sore throat and did not want to risk catching it from her. She said it was pretty good. The patty had a potato like texture. Give it a try if you are a vegetarian.
Texture of the patty
This was the sole reason why we are here, the beef burger. It claimed to be made from 100% pure Australian beef. I was a little disappointed at the texture of the burger. It was not as moist as I expected to be, but hey, beef is generally dryer than other meat. The cheese gave it a nice salty finish, while the turkey bacon was done to perfection. The fries were a generous helping. It kinda taste like McD fries, except less salty and less oily.
After 8 Vanilla cupcake (RM5)
The vanilla cupcake was nothing much to shout about. Simple comfort food.
I had my first taste of churros in Gold coast, and from what I remembered, it tasted amazing. It was simply lightly coated with sugar and cinnamon. Since then, I was searching for the good churros in KL. These churros did not meet my standards. It was a little on the oily side. The dough (The fluffy part inside the churros) was chewy, and not airy like how I remembered. I prefer the texture to be light and fluffy. Furthermore, 4 sticks for Rm9 is a little steep for me. Nothing much to shout about.
The Last Polka ice cream is a unique blend of Malaysian flavours. I particular enjoy the teh tarik flavour. It tastes exactly like the famous Malaysian drink! Yummy! The french toast is a little weird, taste a little like cinnamon, with a myriad of other flavours which I can't place. There are plenty other unique flavours, such as Guinness, nutella and many other flavours. It is not as creamy as the other brands, but the flavouring is awesome. Give it a try!
The total bill: RM 117.60 for 3 of us.
Verdict: Boy oh boy, this place ain't cheap. Our indulgence costs us nearly RM120 for the entire bill, and don't forget, they have 10% service charge on top of the entire bill. The food here is not superbly fantastic in my opinion, but it is alright. I would not travel all the way here just to have their food, but if I'm around the neighbourhood, then sure why not? They have a wide range of breakfast menu which looks delicious. Give this restaurant a try when you're around PJ area.
The Bee have another brunch in Publika also, so great news for the Damansara people! Here are the addresses of both locations which I'd stole from their official website. Enjoy!
