We made a trip down to KLCC today, because there was a 30% discount on the Hunger Games triology books at Kinokuniya, from the Star. Hurrah! But, we faced a big problem when we were there..
WHERE TO EAT FOR DINNER??
Ahhh.. Same old problem again and again. Bug came up with a great idea this time, the Charlie Brown Cafe. He's a big fan of Snoopy & the gang btw. I mean how couldnt you? They are just so adorable! Look at this picture:
Doesn't that just make you smile?
Ok, enough chit chat, and lets cut to the chase. Here's their menu when we sat down in their restaurant.
Charlie Brown menu
Ok, the thing about concept cafes is that never expect anything great. They are famed for their atmosphere after all, and usually the quality of their food suffers in the process. I had tried many concept cafes, T-bowl in Sunway Pyramid, some 60's cafe in Taipan, etc. Nothing stood out in my opinion. It was more of the company and the atmosphere, and the same goes to the Charlie Brown Cafe as well.
Besides, it was worth it to see Bug's happiness in the cafe today. Makes me a happy girl today too!
Yay! Food!
As you can see, the menu is a very simple affair. Fusion food like pasta, chicken chop, fish n chips, with some kungpo chicken rice. They have pretty coffee art, which is categorized according to the types of drink.
Which one are you?
Besides substantial food, they also have a wide selection of cakes, with a Snoopy decoration on it. Probably fondant?
The big snoopy looks delicious!
They had a slightly terbalik (backwards) concept. Rather than 'eat-then-pay', their policy is 'pay-then-eat'. Not a big issue for me. I was more amused by their decorations by the cashier.
Lucy by the cash register
After paying, we were given a table number clipped together with the receipt
How nice, they used 'please'. so polite!
Our total bill came up to be RM63.25. Not including the dessert. Pretty affordable, but bordering on the pricey side. You'll see why.
Some pictures of the cafe while waiting for the food. It is just so pretty! Any Snoopy lover would definitely enjoy the cafe. There are even comics on the wall and cartoons on the tv if you are bored.
Hot chocolate, RM9.50 (left) & vanilla late, RM11.00 (right)
The drinks came with a cute stencil which looked like the characters! The hot chocolate was not superbly good, but it is normal. A bit watery, but it is ok. The vanilla late tasted like Nescafe to me. But Bug said it was good, so it must be good. Blame my inexperienced tastebuds.
Noooo, dun drink her head off!
Drinking his neck. Lol!
The food came immediately after that. I ordered the chicken chop, while Bug had the fish and chips.
The fish
The fish and chips are pretty decent actually. The fries were not the soggy type, but instead is crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The fish is nicely coated with the batter, and is not slimy (which means not fresh), so I'm pretty happy with it. The sauce that came together was the BOMB. Yes, it was yellow, so I definitely had my reservations. But it tastes good with his fries, and my wedges. Seems like a mixture of mustard, mayonnaise, and tar tar sauce. Recommended for this cafe!
Chicken chop (RM18.50)
My chicken chop came with a generous helping of the wedges, fruit salad, and the chicken of course. The wedges was yummy, beautifully fried. Crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. The salad tasted a little weird for me. Besides, I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise coated salad, so I left that aside. I was a little disappointed with my chicken. The good point was, they gave the chicken thigh, and it was pretty big, but the good ends here. The chicken was probably not fresh, as it had a funny texture (not firm and flaky).
After finishing the main courses, Bug had a bad case of sweet tooth syndrome. So we ordered a small chocolate dessert to share (Yes, we are watching our weight. :p)
The generous layer of icing sugar and cocoa powder to form Lucy!
Basically, this dessert is a simple chocolate mousse. Nothing so special nor memorable. A little on the sweet side, due to the dusting of icing sugar. We didnt get to try the tiramisu as it was already out of stock. *sad*
Verdict: Honestly, this restaurant is only entertaining in terms of their concept and their decorations. The food was not very special and needs some improvement here and there, but it sure is simple and good enough. However, for the price paid, it was not very worth it. But I guess it was explainable due to the KLCC rental rates. There was an additional 10% service charge on top of the total bill, but to be fair, their waiters were well-trained in the customer service line. Give it a try only if you are an avid Snoopy lover. Other than that, you sure ain't missing out anything.
There were some entertaining decorations outside, so we went and entertain ourselves.
I needed a picture with Snoopy too!
To find the Snoopy Cafe, it is located near Toy R'Us and Party Princess, in a small corner of the new wing. If you see this, you're on the right track. :)
