Yes, you guessed it right.

CHEESE FOUNDUE!!!!

Some fun and random facts about cheese fondue:

1. Cheese fondue is promoted as the Swiss national food in the 1930s, but is only popular in North America in 1960s.

2. The word fondue means 'to melt'. It is a French word.

3. The earliest know recipe for cheese fondue is dated since 1699, from a book published in Zurich called 'Kass mit Wein zu kochen', which means 'to cook cheese with wine'.

4. Fondue is a symbol of Swiss unity

Mmmmm, as y'all can guess, I was craving for cheese fondue for a loooonnnngggg time! But sadly, there are no good nor decent cheese fondue stores in KL. I heard that there is a good cheese fondue store in Penang, you lucky fellas! One day, I was googling out for cheese fondue stalls in KL quite awhile ago, and I chanced upon this restaurant called Rendezvous Steak House in Cheras.

Cheras is quite a distance from where I stay, and so we had put off the plan for a long time. Today, we decided to take the plunge and brave the jam so that I could curb my craving for cheese fondue. We dragged, I mean invited Mandy to come along since she is one of the biggest fan of anything with cheese. Even bigger than me, I dare say! :p

So after work, Bug drove us all down to Cheras. He took the small roads, as the MRR2 is famed for the jam. However, he took a wrong turning and ended up stuck in the jam for quite a bit! Ok, I was just exaggerating, but with a hungry woman in the car, 5 minutes seems like 5 hours to me. Humph!

We reached the restaurant at about 8pm. We were presented with the menu. Without futher ado, I present to you..

Le Cheese Fondue

Doesn't look too expensive. We ordered one pot of chicken cheese fondue (RM16.80), fried cheesey chicken, which is one of the chef's recommendation (RM13.50), spaghetti carbonara (RM11.80), orange juice (RM4.50) and soursoup juice (RM4.80). Seems pretty affordable to me, especially for students who have no money!

We took some pictures of the interior while waiting for the food to arrive. We sat at a swing table, which is pretty nice with flowers entwined on the metal. It sure is pretty romantic in a budget sorta way.

Mandy and me

I was terrified of sitting next to Bug, cause with our combined weight, I feel like the swing is gonna fall!

The only gripe I have is that the swing does not feel secure with two people sitting on it. If it was only one person, I think I should have no problem there. Not only that, I also feel that the table is quite far away from the bench as well. But that could just be me. We shifted to a normal table next to the swing table. Just personal preference there.

The food came pretty fast! So I guess this restaurant has really fast service. The Bangladesh waiters are polite, and friendly. Couldn't really expect much from this kinda environment, but it was good enough for me.

Where was I? Oh yeah, pictures of the food!

Our soursop and orange juice (RM4.80 & 4.50 respectively)

The juices are pretty ok. At least they taste like freshly squeezed fruits, and not like artificial colouring and sugar water. I like the soursop as they had bits of soursop flesh inside the drink. I love soursops! *Squeals* So yup, am pretty satisfied with the quality of the drinks.

Spaghetti Carbonara (Rm11.80)

At first glance, the pasta did not look very impressive to me. It looks like spaghetti, which was chucked onto a plate of carbonara sauce, then it is topped up with the bits of chicken and mushroom. The portion is small, for I had expected slightly bigger portion there! Bug mixed the pasta with the sauce and gave me a bite to taste. It was.. actually not too shabby! I guess looks can be deceiving huh? The pasta sauce was on the watery side, but it coats the pasta nicely. It was flavoured with some spices (Chives maybe?), which gives it an earthy taste.

Fried chesey chicken (RM13.50)

The interior of the cheesey chicken

The fried cheesey chicken really lived up to its name as they did not stinge on the cheese! When I cut the chicken, there were cheese oozing out from the chicken, yummeh! Add another star in book for me! On top of that, the chicken was not hard, eventhough it is the breast meat. It is moist in the centre, and is stuffed with ham and oodles and oodles of cheese.. This is a definite must try! I found it a little to be on the oily side. The grilled cheesey chicken would be the healthier alternative for the health conscious. The criss cross fries that came with the chicken is a change from the usual french fries/onion rings/mash potatos which had been done to death.

The star of the night: Chicken Cheese fondue (RM16.50)

The cheese fondue came in a tiny pot, with a metal holder where the fire would be. The waiter just used his lighter and.. WOOSH! The fire flared up, and he arranged the metal pot on top of the holder. The fire was really big! It is not like a tiny candle with a cute flame on it, it was more like a roaring fire which you see at the fire hearth in the movies. Did I mention that I am afraid of fire? Haha!

Randomess aside, the cheese fondue came with fried chicken, more criss cross fries, some carrots, broccoli and a roll of bread. Value for money at Rm 16.50, I feel. The criss cross fries goes well with the cheese fondue. For some strange reason, I feel that the fondue was a little lumpy. Are cheese fondues supposed to be lumpy? It wasn't of what that I'd expected, but it was good and cheesey enough for me. I would definitely recommend this for first timers! Would I order this again? Probably not as I'm slightly lactose intolerant, and couldnt take so much cheese even if I wanted to.

Total damage: RM 53.95 for 3 of us.

Not too pricey western food

Overall, this restaurant is definitely value for money. It is hard to find cheap-er Western food around KL nowadays. For the price, I definitely could not fault a single thing about the quality of the food. Would probably come here again to try their other Asian food next time. All the oil from the fried chicken is starting to go to my hips and thighs!

Give this restaurant a go the next time you are craving for Western food. I promise that you would not regret it!

P.S. Do any of you know any restaurants that serve good cheese fondue as well??
