Langkawi Getaway: Day 2 - Of Sunrise & Breakfast Bar (Pantai Cenang)

~Click here for the beginning of our journey in Langkawi!~

We woke up really early to witness the sunrise on the beach. We set the alarm for 6.30am. It was too early as it was still dark outside. The sun started to rise at about 7.10 am. At about 7.20 am, we started making our way down to the beach, and guess what???

The beach resort faces the sunset and not the sunrise!! That is why is is called the SUNSET beach resort, geddit?

OH gosh! So we woke up early for nothing. No fret, we had an early morning walk on Pantai Tengah. It was a very soothing walk, we should definitely do it more often. To see the sky being painted with red, gold and pink is a really magical experience indeed. To enjoy it with great company is even more priceless. Today, we were joined by several sea creatures:

Two city folks admiring what we call..

The Starfish!

We threw back the star fish into the sea so that it could have a longer life. We continued to take pictures by the shore.

My travelling companions

Bee walking by the sea. Nothing beats the feel of seawater on your feet in the morn!

Sisters horsing around!

Group photo!

This is me running away from the waves. I look silly!

Bug and Bee by the sea! (That rhymes!)
*Yes, we were in our pyjamas then*

Jumping shots at the beach!

We found a net with three crabs tangled in it. It was quite sad as the crabs were struggling to break free, but it is impossible with the nylon netting surrounding the shell. We managed to free one baby crab using a rock as our cutting tool, but the other two crabs were a little bit more difficult. So we had no choice but to put the net at where it belonged there.

Please save the environment! Do not simply litter around the beach, as it may harm the other species.

After coming back from the beach, we had a quick shower and started walking around Cenang street. There was a Breakfast bar which Bug and I wanted to try. The rest was not keen as we just had a big breakfast courtesy from Sunset Beach Resort themselves. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, we were very keen to try their food.

It is about 15-20 minutes walk from our resort. You will know that you are in the right place when you see this:

A sign greeting you in many different languages

We made ourselves comfortable in the eatery, and the waiter presented us the simple laminated menu.

The prices here are affordable. Bug had a plain pancake with butter & syrup (RM4) while I had a cheese omelette (RM4.50). Each of us had a glass of fruit juice, orange and pineapple juice respectively as well (RM3).

Me and my pineapple juice - RM3

Ok, first of all, we (Or at least I did) had high expectations on the food here, as many blogs touted that the food is cheap and tasty. Our first letdown was the drink. We had expected the fruit juices to be freshly squeezed, or at least originated from the real fruit. However, Bug's orange juice tasted like diluted Sunkist, while my pineapple juice tasted like it came from a tin of pineapples. Well, we thought 'What could we expect for RM3?' We waited for the food and hoped that it would be a better experience.

Shortly after that, the food came:

Bug's pancake (It looks like roti canai to me) - RM4

My Cheese omelette - RM4.50

The food came pretty fast, so kudos on their service. Their food quality however, is another story itself. The food is cheap no doubt. But the cheese omelette looks and tastes like the one I make at home. In fact, they were pretty stingy on the cheese. I was expecting the cheese omelette to be oozing with cheese, or at least have a cheesey sensation from it. For RM4.50, I would say it is definitely not worth the cash. The pancake that Bug ordered was ok, but hardly memorable. The pancake is perfectly browned without being burnt, and is pretty fluffy. Not fantastic, just a normal pancake where you could find in any normal restaurants.

There was a cat at the store. I dubbed him Tombok (Dots).

If you see this, you are in the correct restaurant, now go and eat!

Verdict: Breakfast Bar is a cheap place to dine in the morning. There were alot of ang mohs having their morning coffee with the papers. It is certainly very relaxing, but the food quality is definitely not what I had expected. Probably it is because we did not try their specialities (which I'm not too sure what is it also). Probably it is also because we had a big breakfast courtesy of the resort which is an all-you-can-eat before heading to Breakfast Bar. I do recommend to go here for breakfast for cheap food, but lower your standards to avoid disappointment like how I was.
