Langkawi Getaway: Day 1 - Dinner at T-Jay's Restaurant

~Click here for our breakfast review in Breakfast Bar on Day 2!~

We had dinner at T-Jay's Restaurant upon touch down. It is an Italian restaurant, owned by an English couple.

We took a short walk down Cenang Road, towards the Langkawi Underwater World. It is a mere two minutes walk from our hotel. Say yay to Sunset Beach resort! Saw a cool shop on the way:

Looks like Langkawi is jumping on the 'Like' wagon too!

My travel buddies led the way to the restaurant. Underwater World is on our left, so T-Jay's restaurant is on our right. It is at the end of the Underwater World. Not too far away.

On our quest to search for good food

Bug and Bee!

T-Jay's is tucked in a little corner, past a Hong Kong cafe. It is not directly on the Cenang road itself, but more of like a short walk down a lane from Cenang road. Could be easily missed if we are not careful enough.

You have arrived at T-Jay's Italian Restaurant

After considering the reviews on Tripadvisor and many bloggers, we had decided to come here for their Italian food, especially their pizza. We, (or at least me) had extremely high hopes on their service and food quality. It was about 6 ish, nearing 7 when we reached the restaurant. We were one of the first few tables to be waited on in the restaurant. A nice Penangite, working for the restaurant served us there.

The drinks menu (Pricier than normal duty free shops)

We placed our orders for three pizzas and one pasta dish. We ordered the Verdura (Tomato & Mozzarella with roasted Italian Vegetables - RM 30), Salmone (Tomato & Mozzarella, Smoked Salmon, fresh tomatoes and mascarpone cheese - RM 34), and a house special (Mexican based. Can't really remember the name - RM 30). The pasta dish that we ordered was the Penne Alfredo (RM 30).

While waiting for the orders, we took some pictures!

Both of us with our bottled water (RM 7). Really expensive bottle of water!

My drop-dead gorgeous BFF!

The food took quite awhile to come, probably it was because the pizza had to be cooked in the oven. Its alright, we are very patient people.

So without further ado, let me present to you..

The Verdura (RM 30)

Verdura pizza is a pizza with roasted Italian vegetables. Tastewise: A bit weird. I think my tongue is not accustomed to the Italian vegetables. I didn't really enjoy this as much as I thought that I would. I don't recommend this pizza at all.

Penne Alfredo (RM 30)

I must say.. The pasta is fabulous! I had never tasted an alfredo that does not make me feel jelak (sick) after eating it. The down side? The portion for the pasta at that price is really small. It is just enough to feed one girl. Guys would definitely not feel full after this dish. That being said, the pasta is really creamy and cheesey, but not in a bad way. I tasted a hint of herbs, that probably made the pasta tastes gooooddd.. Yummy! Would I get it again? Well, probably not. Even though it is really good, the price is too steep for my pockets. I would rather go to Italiannies where we pay the same price for the almost same quality of food. But if you have the cash, then by all means go and try it!

Salmone pizza (RM34)

Salmone pizza is a pizza with smoked salmon. Now this is much more my style! For the salmon and cheese lovers, rejoice! This pizza is filled with smoked salmon and it goes well with the mascarpone cheese, at a right ratio. Would definitely order this if I was to come here again.

The Mexican pizza (RM 30)

Lastly, the Mexican pizza. It is my second favourite among the three pizzas. It came with jalapeno, or the green chilli on the pizza. The Penang waiter recommended us to try it with their chilli oil. It wasn't as spicy as expected as it did not provide the kick that I was looking for. However, the spices enhanced the flavour of the pizza.

First of all, the pizzas are definitely much more worth the value than the pasta as it is definitely more than enough to share. The crusts are the thin type of crust, instead of the usual doughy crusts we get from Pizza Hut. Love their pizzas, especially the Salmone one. I would give the Verdura one a skip though. Their pastas is really good too, especially the cream sauce one. Mmmm, yummy! Overall, their food is really nice, and it sure is must try!

Food for thought though: We were the only Asian table in the whole restaurant. The whole restaurant was packed with the ang mohs, mostly families and couples. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them. HOWEVER, I'd noticed that the owners of the T-Jay's restaurant had been attending these ang moh families and couples personally, but they had never approached our table. We were served by a very nice Penangite the whole time. A bit strange, that they did not come to our table to say hi, or ask how is the food, or at least exchange any pleasantries with us. So thumbs down for the service here.

Overall, our experience here in T-Jay's restaurant was a good one. Not mind blowingly awesome, but good. We would come here again, for the food if we are here in Langkawi. Do try their restaurant if you are in Langkawi, but be prepared to spend if you intend to eat well. =)
