On the second day of our Langkawi Getaway, we went to the Bird Paradise (also known as the Langkawi Wildlife Park) after our Breakfast Bar session. The drive here from Cenang beach to the wild life park took us approximately 45 minutes as we were unsure of the way. The simplest directions: take the road towards Kuah Jetty. You would see a Citin hotel on your left. Turn left at the next intersection and just go on straight up the hill. The Wildlife Park would be on your left. But do NOT rely on my directions, please consult the map or the GPS for security purposes.
When you see this logo, you know that you had reached your destination:
Yay! We are here at the Bird paradise!
We went to pay for our entrance tickets to the park. The lady told us that it was RM22. I was like.. WHAT??? Oh then she said, for MyKad holders, it is RM12. Now that sounds much better. We obtained our tickets, and off we go through the gates.
Before we went in, there was a lady with a cockatoo and an eagle. She made us take a picture with them before going in. No pictures of them unfortunately, because we were not allowed to use our cameras, and one picture costs RM15! So, a no-no for us.
When we stepped into the park, we were greeted by parrots on the left. There was a stall selling bird food for RM6 per packet. There were cabbages, carrots, bird seeds, sunflower seeds, and many more seeds which I can't remember. It reminds me of the song in Mary Poppins called Feed the Birds. Only it is not tuppence a bag! LOL!
First cockatoo that I'd seen!
The cockatoos are a little shy. They will stay away and access you from a distance to see if you are friendly, but they will eventually hop down to eat the bird seeds that you'd put there. The parrots on the other hand are really friendly! They would hop to you, and look into your hand if you have some seeds for them! I wonder why they are caged up though.
Here birdie, time to eat!
If you are worried about the birds pecking you, then stop worrying! They are really gentle, and they don't peck. When you feed them, they will use their tongue and beak to take the sunflower seed from you, and then hold it with their feet. Then they will crack the shell, drop it and then eat the seed from within. Phew, sounds really hard! I'm glad we have hands.
A short walk later, we found ourselves face to face with a flamingo!
Bug asked me how come this one had only one foot!
There were plenty of flamingoes around! This really ain't friendly birds. I'd no idea what they like to eat, so I just started throwing stuff at random. They didnt eat anything. I don't think they are very hungry at the moment. But they sure are pretty!
Flamingo pond!
A short walk from the pond, there was another pond filled with mandarin ducks! Mandarin ducks are long associated with love for the chinese culture. Many chinese homes have a pair of mandarin ducks to ensure that their marriage would be blissful and happy for many years to come.
There were two different colours, one was very colourful and the other was a dull brown.
The colourful and pretty duck. Guess if it is a female or a male?

If you said male, then you are right!
Mother Nature is interesting. She gave beautiful colourful feathers to the male mandarin ducks. This is so that the males could attract the females with their glossy feathers. I wonder why for the human race it works the other way?
Could you spot the female duck?
There was also a crocodile exhibit in the park. I didn't manage to take pictures of the crocodile because I was too distracted by the signs on the crocodile cage:
Apparently cockroaches get lung cancer too
I literally LOL-ed when I saw all these signs. They are humorous, but yet the message is loud and clear, and really effective I feel! Kudos to the person who thought of all these signs!
Because this is a bird park, I should see more pictures of birds right? Yup, you got that absolutely right! There were many birds in cages:
Some-chinese-bird-which-I-can't-remember-the name-but-it-is-so-pretty-that-I-couldnt-resist-posting-its-picture
There were many other birds too, but I do not want to be the spoiler, so I would jump straight to the animals:
This is.. Oh no, I couldnt remember what animal was it too! But it sure was happy to receive some food.
Now comes the highlight of the trip. The one and only reason why I chose to come to visit the Birdpark. The reason why I decided to skip the day at the beach, and drive here. The reason why I decided to pay Rm12 to enter the park..

The sole reason why I wanted to come here is because the birds are so tame, they will actually eat the bird seeds from your hands!
Yes, very childish like, I know. But for that moment, I felt like Snow White where the birds would actually come and eat the seeds from your hands. They are tame, but will be startled by any sudden moves. There are plenty of these kind of birds around the aviary! Be careful not to step on them!
They will actually hop on your hand to eat the seeds. It is really fascinating for me!
Now a little pop quiz, could you tell the difference between Picture 1 and Picture 2?
Picture 2
Hehe! Bug looks as if the birds are torturing him with the beaks and talons! I found it very amusing and cute!
Spent quite awhile at the aviary. We had a Bug&Bee moment at the waterfalls. =)
Bug&Bee
At the end of the aviary, there was a walkway to see more animals. Here is where the peacocks, deers, ostriches, and bunnies are kept. My favourite?
Definitely the ostrich.
The ostrich sure is a loud and demanding creature. If I didn't give him food fast enough for his liking, he started honking really loudly:
HA! Caught you in mid honk!
I found the ostriches really adorable with their fuzzy heads, long neck and fat feathery body. I kept throwing the cabbages far far away because I was scared he might peck my whole hand off! He, (or is it a she?) is a very cho loh (rough) animal indeed!
Paid a visit to the bunnies farm. The bunnies seem to be really hungry! All of them crowded around me within seconds after stepping into the farm!
Bug showing his softer side
After the rabbit farm, we proceeded to the monkeys section. Nothing really fantastic there. Basically there were just monkeys in cages. We didnt take any photos as we were rushing because we were going to be late for our next agenda: Island hopping!
Verdict: The whole journey around the park took approximately 1.5 hours. It was much bigger than I'd expected, and really clean. To me, it is really worth the Rm12 entrance fee as we actually get to interact with the animals, and the animals actually interacts back! The staff on duty are pretty friendly as well. If this is your first time in Langkawi, or if you have kids, I really recommend you to visit this place as it is fun, interactive, and intellectually enriching.
Next up: Lunch at Nasi Kandar Tomato, Pantai Cenang, stay tuned!
