Valentines Celebration @ El Toro, Subang Avenue

Recently, Bug and I went to celebrate our long awaited Valentines day in a very typical fashion, dinner followed by dessert. Since Bug bought two vouchers from Groupon for El Toros, we had decided to put the vouchers to good use. To me, it was quite a good buy at RM 22 for a steak, salad + soup of the day. Yummy!

We had a great first experience with El Toro last year when it was first launched (Brought back by Groupon Malaysia as one of the best selling deals for 2011), Bug immediately grabbed the vouchers when it was out.

So we made our way to the restaurant. It was not hard finding the restaurant. Subang Avenue is located smack right beside Carrefour and Subang Parade. Here is a map of the restaurant taken from their Facebook page.
Once you come out from the lift, make your way to the main entrance, where Chillacup would be on your right. Head out, and make a left turn, pass Amaree hotpot. El Toro is located just beside a kopitiam, you definitely can't miss it as you could see it from the highway itself.

Here we are at El Toro

The interior. Here is where you could choose your meat on the spot.

The mascot and their symbol is a bull.

We gave our waitress the coupon number and waited for our food. While waiting, here are some pictures of the sauces!

Pretty generous with their sauces, there were tomato, Dijon mustard, and BBQ (My fav!)

We ordered Earl Grey tea so that we would not feel so bloated. Also Bug said that this has a lower amount of caffeine (Correct me if I'm wrong), so I could sleep that night.

Their Earl Grey is authentic, it came in a tea bag

Oh, that's me!

*British accent* Would you like a cuppa tea?

Not too long after that, our food came. The soups came first, piping hot with steam. Yay!

The soup of the day, mushroom soup

It came with a complimentary garlic bread

The white lines that you see on the soup are actually the cream. Mix them up, and you would get a creamy, indulgent, comfort food for the soul. The mushroom soup is not from the Campbell can, as I could taste the mushroom bits (Yay!). It was not overly salty, just right for me. The garlic bread is luke warm bordering on the cold side. The saving grace is that it was soft and pillowy on the inside, while it is crunchy on the outside.

Bug really loves his mushroom soup. I should learn how to make them.

After our soups are drained down to the very last drop, the steaks were served. Impeccable timing! Each steak comes with a garden salad, french fries, and of course, the big chunk of meat.

The steak is actually obtained from premium beef in Australia, and it is Halal. The 200 gsm rib eye steak was cooked in two different styles for us to try; Well done for Bug, and medium rare for me.

Bug's well-done steak

At first glance, his steak did not look very appetizing, in fact it looks very dry and unappealing. This is where Looks can be Deceiving. When Bug gave me a piece to try, it was actually very flavourful and juicy, not at all dry and it is way better than what I bargained for.

Garden Salad

Each steak came with a garden salad. It was nothing to shout about. Worth mentioning is that the veggies were generously coated with parmesan cheese, giving the veggies a grainy texture and a salty aftertaste.

French Fries

Those who know me, knows that I am VERY particular about my french fries. I love my french fries crispy (No soggy french fries please), the kind which could stand on its own. And the insides should be soft and piping hot. The El toro fries are simply mind blowing! It fulfills all my criteria for a perfect french fries and more, as it was not TOO salty. None of those fries were soggy. I ate them with BBQ sauce and the mustard. *drools*

My Medium Rare Steak

The steak which I had gotten is really juicy. It was nicely grilled to perfection. It was so flavourful until you do not need any sauces to enhance the flavour

Verdict: To be honest, I have no particular preference for steaks. I had always seen people ordering medium rare, and so I had always stuck with that. But after tasting Bug's well done, I had concluded that I may actually prefer well-done to medium rare, but that is just my taste buds. El Toro is a wonderful place to head to for dinner. I'd looked at their copy of the El Toro's menu online, and to my surprise it is not too expensive if you are to come here without a voucher. Their burgers are less than RM20 per meal. I would definitely come here again for dinner, or when I need to curb my steak cravings. Great casual restaurant at great prices!

Happy couple with their foods

    1. Hi there, I think you totally should not judge a book by its cover. Once you get to know my other half, you will find that he is very selfless, loving, loyal and many other great traits that we don't see in mankind anymore. So do refrain from commenting if you wish to judge based on looks alone. Thank you.
